The number of millimetres a fold costs: extra material added at every fold to make up for the space the fold needs. It depends on the material.
| Material | Board | Allowance |
| Paper, thin card | ≤ 0.5 | 0.2 – 0.5 |
| Folding carton | 0.5 – 1 | 0.5 – 1 |
| Corrugated E-flute | ≈ 1.5 | ≈ 1.5 |
| Corrugated B-flute | ≈ 3 | ≈ 3 |
| Corrugated C-flute | ≈ 4 | ≈ 4 |
| Double wall (BC) | ≈ 6 – 7 | ≈ 6 – 7 |
Rule of thumb: about the thickness of the board, as in commercial FEFCO 0427 dielines. For your 6 mm board: about 6 mm. Less makes the box tighter, more makes it looser. Check with one test fold.
